Owner and Therapist
Hello! I am Kolbie Elliott, Licensed Clinical Psychotherapist and founder of Prosperity Mental Health & Wellness, a private practice in Topeka, Kansas. I have been working in the field of Mental Health since 2014. I began my mental health journey working with adolescents in a psychosocial group setting. I continued my education, graduating from Washburn University's Clinical Psychology Program with a masters degree in clinical psychology in 2018. During my education, I had the opportunity to work with individuals of all ages, and learned treatment protocols and techniques for both adults and children. I moved into a clinical therapist role upon graduating, working in community mental health, with a focus in children under the age of 6. During that time, I became certified in Parent Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT). I am trained in, and have experience working with a variety of concerns. However, I most enjoy working with anxiety and depression amongst the adult population, and anxiety, ADHD, and oppositional defiance in the childhood population.
I strongly believe that we have the power to change our environmental factors and behavior, which will make a profound impact on our mental health and wellbeing. I think it is important to look at health care through a holistic lens, taking into account healthful habits such as sleep, physical activity, nutrition, media consumption, and social-emotional connections, in addition to evidenced based treatment protocols for mental health concerns. I do not prescribe medication, and generally recommend behavioral/environmental approaches before referring for medication.
On a personal note, I am a wife and mother to a sweet little toddler. I have two fur children, a stubborn corgi with a big personality, and a sweet spunky golden retriever. I enjoy the outdoors! You will often find me camping, hiking, kayaking, and fishing in the summer months. As summer turns to fall I enjoy sitting by a bonfire and admiring the beauty of the changing fall colors. When the Kansas weather is less conducive to being outdoors, you will find me curled up with a good book or crafting ( I love to crochet, draw, paint, and create). I believe how we fuel our bodies is important. Thus, I also enjoy making homemade meals and baking. I am very close with my extended family and never pass up an opportunity for a family dinner or a game night. I spend a good portion of my time in the gym with friends who help to inspire and support health through physical activity.
I plan to continue to pursue continuing education in the areas of nutrition, sleep, and postpartum support. I personally value and have seen the impact that putting healthful habits into practice can do for my own life, and I hope to help guide others to do the same. We are all at different places in our journey, and I hope you find the space with me a supportive and nonjudgmental haven to take that journey.
